Happy New Year from all of us at Allerpack!
We hope you have a healthy and happy beginning to 2023!
The start of a new year is a great time to get organised with your health and medication.
From checking expiry dates to updating your new calendar with appointments, there are multiple things that you can do to ensure you are prepared for the year ahead.
Storing Your Medication
Do you know how to store your medication?
Frequently individuals are not informed when prescribed medication and how to store it best.
From keeping some medication in the fridge to ensuring that adrenaline auto-injectors are kept at a steady temperature (15°c-25°c), the start of the new year is a good time to check this.
Did you know that it isn’t just warmer temperatures that can have an impact on your adrenaline auto-injector?
Colder temperatures (below 15°c) may also have an impact on your device. However, it is not the adrenaline inside the auto-injector which is impacted by exposure to cold temperatures, but rather the mechanism of the spring inside the device.
Allerpack insulated bags are a great way of ensuring that your medication is always close by and kept at a safe temperature (between 20°c and 25°c).
Our bags come in a choice of sizes and colours and are convenient to carry around with the handy wristlet strap. The child and adult bags also provide a handy space for your identification cards and Action Plans.
Checking your Action Plans are current and up to date
Even small changes that have been made to your medical history over the past 12 months can mean that tweaks need to be made to your Action Plan.
From changes that have been made to your medication, to changes in your personal information, such as names and addresses, it is important to ensure this information is current should it ever be needed in an emergency.
Always work with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your plan.
School and Nursery
If your child(ren) has allergies, asthma or other health conditions, you may wish to use the start of the new year and term to arrange a meeting with the staff and carers.
This time of year is a great opportunity to look back over the first term.
It’s when it is best to discuss the management of your child’s condition, what has and hasn’t worked well and make suggestions for the coming terms.
You may wish to use this meeting to update any changes to care and medication.
You may also use this opportunity to remind staff how medication should be stored and to check the expiration dates of any medication stored at school.
Expiration Dates and Appointments
Have you treated yourself to a fresh, new calendar for 2023?
The new year is an excellent time to check the expiration dates on all your medication. Ensure to add expiration dates to your calendar so you can get those repeat prescriptions in good time.
You could use this time, whilst being productive, to add your upcoming appointments for the year. We know that appointments can often feel like gold dust, having your appointment displayed means you’ll never forget them!
From all of us at Allerpack, we wish you a happy and healthy 2023.
